Emergency Medical/Evacuation/Repatriation Insurance
Every team member must have proper medical insurance coverage to participate on a GEM short-term project. Many regular insurance policies do not provide adequate coverage, so please make sure to consider the options below for your specific situation.
There are 2 options for obtaining adequate medical insurance coverage:
1. GEM Provided Insurance Coverage
GEM can provide emergency medical/evacuation insurance coverage through United Health Care (UHC) while outside of your home country. The coverage is $15 per person, per block (7-day blocks). Days are counted as Day 1 = arrival date in the foreign country, and departure date as last day. 1-7 days = $15, 8-14 days = $30, 15-21 = $45, etc.
Insurance payment can be made HERE via credit/debit card or ACH transfer.
*One payment can be made for the full group.
Please make sure to include the following information in the comment section:
- Volunteer names
- Date and location of the project
- The number of weeks of insurance being purchased per person.
Example: John and Jackie Smith, Tom and Tanya Clark, and Bob Farmer, June 20-30, 2025 in Stockholm, Sweden, 2 weeks
Please email shorttermvolunteers@gemission.org with a copy of your payment receipt.
*If you are a GEM Missionary/Associate, please email shorttermvolunteers@gemission.org if you would like to use an MU transfer for this payment.
2. Insurance Waiver
We can accept other insurance coverage if it is of equal or greater coverage (see Equivalent for Proof of Insurance document). We will need the following for each individual or team:
- STS Insurance Waiver: signed and returned.
- A copy of the policy to prove equivalent coverage.
The waiver and a copy of your insurance policy can be sent to shorttermvolunteers@gemission.org – please use “Proof of Equivalent Insurance” as the subject line.
