Camp des Cimes – France – 2 Weeks

Below the Alpine village of La Rivoire, in a run-down house without running water, GEM’s first French youth camp was held in 1967. In 1969, other buildings in La Rivoire became available and the purchase of the Camp Des Cimes property was finalized. Young Christians from across Europe and the United States then came together to restore the 200 year-old buildings. Hard-working and ambitious, these young adults sheltered in a barn which had neither electricity nor running water, sleeping in the hay. Together they turned what had been a farmhouse, a bakery, and a small school into a functioning camp building. In 1984, construction of a new building (The Big Chalet) was begun. It took 14 years of hard labor, a lot of energy, and numerous skilled American workers who came to support the regional team. Camp of the Peaks seeks to be a refuge where Europeans can recharge, be encouraged, and meet the Savior. Through a friendly environment and shared camp experiences, they enjoy fellowship, demonstrating what life can be when permeated with Biblical truth and the person of Christ.

Project Plan

Camp des Cimes is constantly needing upgrading to stay in compliance with the French government. Many of the buildings are 200 years old. The projects for this coming year will be adding some bathrooms to a dorm that previously had none as well as odd jobs around the property that need completing.
